What is Periodontics?

Periodontics is the field of dentistry that specifically diagnoses and treats periodontal disease and other gum-related disorders. Gum disease affects many adults and is the leading cause of permanent tooth loss. Periodontics can also refer to dental implant placement, as implants are placed underneath the gum line. Dr. Saha performs a range of periodontal treatments to help his patients obtain healthier and happier smiles.

Non-Surgical Procedures:

Periodontal Maintenance:

Our office provides exceptional periodontal maintenance services for our patients. To prevent the progression of periodontal disease, it is important to take care of our teeth. Our periodontal maintenance includes deep cleaning to remove plaque buildup from gums and teeth. This cleaning process helps to restore the gums, maintain gum and bone health, and prevent tooth loss.

Scaling and Root Planing:

Scaling and Root Planing cleans and removes plaque on the tooth and root surfaces. This is a non-surgical procedure that helps to heal gum tissue and shrink periodontal pockets where bacteria settles. This procedure helps to prevent further infection, and keeps gums healthy. Gums will recede less, and the treatment will help restore your gums if they are damaged from gum disease.
Please contact our office to learn more about scaling and root planing, and how this treatment can help you.

Exams and X-rays:

We recommend regular dental exams in our office and cleanings to help prevent periodontal disease or gingivitis. Our office provides deep cleaning and periodontal maintenance services for our patients. Periodontal maintenance is recommended every three months, and during our exams we provide digital x-rays to help detect any issues that may be present. To prevent future issues regular exams keep your teeth and gums looking and feeling great.

Surgical Procedures:

Our LANAP procedure at Andrew Turchin, DMD is a laser treatment done to target inflammation in the gums without damaging or removing any healthy gum tissue. The LANAP procedure is less invasive compared to other procedures, helps periodontal regeneration, and new both growth. This procedure also helps to reattach tissue on the gum line.
The LANAP laser gently clears away bacteria that causes gum disease. This allows the gum to heal and regenerate targeting only the area of concern. The healthy gum tissue surrounding the area is left in-tact. LANAP improves oral health for those that suffer from advanced gum disease with little recovery time.
During the LANAP procedure the damaged tissue is removed using the laser. Once this is done a scaling tool is used to remove any plaque or tarter from the surfaces of teeth. Lastly, the laser is applied a second time creating a fibrin clot or blood clot to seal the tissue around the tooth. This last part of the process is what starts the healing and regeneration process.

Services offered with LANAP include:

• Cosmetic gum treatment
• Growth and sore removal
• Gum grafting and pocket reduction
• Frenectomy
Please contact our office today to find out more about the LANAP procedure and how it can benefit you.

Dental implants are a permanent solution for patients needing tooth replacement. Implants can replace a tooth immediately after an extraction, or replace teeth that have been missing for an extended period of time. Implants are built to last for years and feel like natural teeth, giving patients reliable results and a beautiful white smile.
Our staff will help create a customized plan that helps each patient reach their goals, providing you with a smile you can be proud of.

All on 4 Implants:

All on 4 dental implants are also known as Teeth in a Day. These dental implants can be placed in just one appointment. The All on 4 implant is a fixed denture that is supported by implants. Typically there are four implants that provide the support, and this type of implant uses smaller posts and fewer bone grafts. X-rays and digital scans are used to gain a thorough view of your jawbone, and place the implants in the strongest areas of your jaw. All on 4 implants are reliable and durable, giving patients the smile they desire.

Gum Grafting:

Gingival grafts are done to treat gum recession when there is lack of tissue on the root surface. If a patient has exposed roots they are sensitive to hot and cold, as well as vulnerable to decay. This procedure helps to prevent exposed roots from decaying further, and helps to alleviate sensitivity to hot or cold. Mobility or tooth loss can occur if the gums are not treated promptly.

An extraction is necessary if you have a broken or damaged tooth that may have been fixed with a filling or crown. In some cases, the tooth cannot be repaired because there is too much damage. Typically this is when a tooth extraction is necessary.
At Andrew Turchin, DMD, we provide patients with a few different extraction procedures.
A simple dental extraction can be done when the tooth can be seen in the mouth. We use local anesthesia to keep our patients comfortable, and the tooth is simply removed.
If the tooth is broken or has not erupted in the mouth, and we cannot reach the tooth with ease, a surgical extraction may be necessary. Local anesthesia is used to keep patients comfortable during the extraction. This type of extraction is a bit more complex, and involves a small incision in the gum to remove the tooth.
Surgical extractions are very common, and stitches may be needed to ensure the area heals properly. Our skilled staff will provide post-extraction instructions to care for your mouth at home. Once tooth extraction is complete we can discuss next steps for tooth replacement to restore your smile.

Bone Grafting:

Bone grafting is used to increase, restore, and maintain bone strength from tooth loss, trauma, or gum disease. Bone grafting is done by adding bone graft material to the area in need using an incision in the gum. Procedures such as dental implants require adequate bone structure to ensure the procedure is a success. Restoring bone structure is important to provide a solid base for dental implants, and also helps support the face and mouth.

Functional Crown Lengthening:

Functional crown lengthening is a surgical procedure to expose more of a tooth. This allows the tooth to be more visible above the gum line. This procedure adjusts the level of the gum tissue around the tooth. If the patient has a cracked or damaged tooth this procedure allows the doctor to access the tooth with ease. Functional crown lengthening also helps the crown align and fit better over the tooth. Typically, this procedure is done if a tooth is in need of a new crown or filling. Healing time is approximately 6 weeks but can vary per patient.
Contact our office today to find out more about our functional crown lengthening procedure.

Cosmetic Crown Lengthening:

Cosmetic crown lengthening is done when there is excess gum and bone tissue. This procedure reshapes the gum tissue around the tooth, and helps to correct a gummy smile. Cosmetic crown lengthening exposes more of the patient’s natural tooth, and can make teeth look longer. This procedure improves the aesthetics of the gum line, and gives patients that perfect smile.
Contact our office today to schedule your appointment, and find out more about cosmetic crown lengthening and how it can benefit you.

Ridge Augmentation:

Ridge augmentation is a surgical procedure that is done to help create the proper support for dental implants. Dental implants need adequate bone in the jaw to remain stable in the mouth. Ridge augmentation helps to build the bone back up, and provide this needed support. Ridge loss can occur from periodontal disease, genetic conditions, or from trauma.
Contact our office to learn more about our ridge augmentation procedure.

Pocket Reduction Surgery:

Pocket reduction surgery is done to remove bacteria underneath the gums, and to reduce deep pockets. Bacteria can collect in the deep pockets, and this procedure helps to prevent gum deterioration in the future. Pocket reduction surgery helps maintain good oral health, and can help prevent future oral health issues.
Contact our office today to find out more about pocket reduction surgery and how this procedure can benefit you.

Sinus Lift:

Sinus lifting is done to create space to accommodate a dental implant. This procedure adds bone to the upper jaw and is done on either side of your nose between your jaw and sinuses. Typically this procedure is recommended if the jaw is too thin to hold the implants securely. This procedure is relatively quick taking approximately 45 minutes. Healing time is usually between 2-3 days.
Contact our office today to find out more about our sinus lift procedure.

Gum Contouring:

Gum contouring is a procedure that can change the shape of your gums. This is done if the patient has excess gum tissue, or if the gum line is uneven. This procedure removes the excess gum tissue, and exposes more of the patient’s teeth. Gum contouring restores gum tissue that has receded and gives patients a beautiful even smile.
