What exactly are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a type of restoration that is meant to improve the integrity and strength of a tooth. If a tooth has been compromised in any way, you may be told that it will need to be crowned. Crowns last for many years and look and even feel like real teeth. The dental crown procedure is done quickly and easily in our office by Dr. Andrew Turchin.
Why might you need a Dental Crown?
You may need to have a dental crown placed if one or more of your teeth have been compromised. The tooth’s integrity and overall functionality may have diminished, so a crown can build up the tooth and restore it to its natural beauty and size. Some of the reasons you may be told you need a dental crown include:
- A tooth has severe decay
- A tooth has cracked, fractured or broken
- A tooth has recently had a root canal
What are the benefits of a Dental Crown?
A dental crown will restore a compromised tooth to its original size. This improves the appearance of your smile and makes the tooth more functional. Crowns are durable and made using high-quality materials that are matched to the natural color of your teeth. You can feel confident that your new dental crown will last for many years and provide you with a smooth, even bite. Crowns can be placed on back teeth as well as front teeth, wherever they might be needed. They are custom-made for each patient to create a unique, personalized look.
What is the procedure for having a Dental Crown placed?
You will first come in for a consultation and exam with Dr. Andrew Turchin. Dr. Andrew Turchin will determine if a crown is the right choice for you. You will then be scheduled for the procedure. The area that will be receiving the crown will be numbed for your comfort. You will then have the tooth filed down to remove decay and to shape the tooth to make room for the crown. Impressions are taken and sent to a lab where the permanent crown is made for you. You will go home the same day with a temporary crown for aesthetic and functional purposes. You will come back into the office to have the permanent crown placed and filed down for a more even fit. With proper hygiene and routine dental care, your brand-new crown will last for up to a decade before it will need to be removed and replaced.
